Although we have years of training and pull from many treatment modalities, titrated to your unique situation, here are more specific treatments that we specialize in that will help your growth and functionality.
Christina practices:
Insight-Oriented Psychotherapy
Christina assists in uncovering and illuminating the psychological processes that creates one’s personality, world-view, and respective behavior and relational patterns, and contends that childhood and adult life experiences, particularly material are crucial in affecting and shaping adult personality, together uncover hidden motivations and core beliefs, make connections between past experiences and present difficulties, explore and improve the patterns of defenses, and develop healthier patterns of coping and responding to the world. Developing insight is key in understanding and the true nature of symptoms.
Trauma Resolution
Christina combines a number of modalities to resolve trauma and promote healing. One framework is mindfulness and acceptance/commitment, in which meditation, compassion and forgiveness traditions are combined with modern Western psychological methods of analyzing and investigating one’s developmental conditioning and committing to meaningful change. She also utilizes energy psychology, in which we will detect disruptions or imbalances are detected in your body’s subtle energy system and those energetic imprints of trauma are then cleared to achieve emotional balance. These two types of rapid resolution are the Emotional Freedom Technique and Matrix Reimprinting, for those who are established in care and for whom it has been deemed appropriate and clinically indicated. In this method, you will be able to defuse and detach negative emotional reactions to core memories and beliefs, as well as replace those negative states with positive ones based on what you may have needed at the time.
Matthew practices:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Matthew’s approach to individual therapy is collaborative, practical, and focused on helping you function more effectively in the areas of life that matter most. Most clients are thoughtful, capable people who have successfully managed careers, relationships, and significant responsibilities but have reached a point where their usual strategies are no longer working. Therapy isn’t about fixing who you are—it’s about developing new ways of thinking, responding, and solving problems so you can move forward with greater clarity and confidence.
Matthew’s work is grounded in evidence-based approaches, particularly Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT). This collaborative approach examines how your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors interact, identifies unhelpful patterns and develops practical strategies for creating meaningful change.
One frequently used framework comes from REBT’s ABCDE model:
- A – Activating Event: What happened?
- B – Beliefs: How did you interpret the situation? What assumptions or expectations influenced your response?
- C – Consequences: How did those beliefs affect your emotions, decisions, and behavior?
- D – Disputation: Together, we’ll examine whether those beliefs are accurate, helpful, or consistent with your values.
- E – Effective New Perspective: We’ll develop more balanced, realistic ways of thinking that support healthier emotional responses and more effective action.
The goal isn’t simply to think more positively—it’s to think more accurately, respond more intentionally, and build the psychological flexibility needed to navigate life’s challenges.
Couples Counseling
Healthy relationships don’t depend on never having conflict—they depend on learning how to communicate, solve problems together, and remain emotionally connected even during difficult times. Couples counseling is practical, collaborative, and grounded in decades of relationship research. Matthew utilizes the PREP (Prevention and Relationship Enhancement Program) developed by Howard Markman, including the Speaker-Listener Technique, a structured communication strategy that helps couples slow down conversations, reduce defensiveness, and truly hear one another. He also utilizes work inspired by the relationship research of John and Julie Gottman, emphasizing skills such as strengthening friendship, managing conflict constructively, rebuilding trust, and increasing positive interactions. Rather than assigning blame or deciding who is “right,” we focus on identifying the patterns that perpetuate unhelpful behaviors and developing practical skills that foster healthier communication, greater understanding, and lasting connection.
Both clinicians practice:
12-Step Facilitation/Therapy
12-step facilitation therapy is grounded in the philosophic underpinnings of AA. According to AA, “alcoholism” is a chronic, progressive disease characterized by an inability to control alcohol use and “denial” over this loss of control over drinking. The solution is outlined in a 12 step plan for living that not only allows you to achieve abstinence from alcohol, but involves abandoning self-centered motives and self-sufficiency and experiencing a vast rearrangement of values, perspectives, and motivations called a “spiritual experience”. This brings joy, contentment, and a vast improvement in levels of functioning and quality of life for you and those around you who have been hurt by your addiction. This model is expanded for use with a variety of substance use disorders, co-occurring disorders, gambling addiction, problematic eating, chronic debt and overspending, and other compulsive behaviors. You will be assisted in breaking down step work and identifying and defusing barriers to affiliation with the 12-step program appropriate for your situation. If you are already in recovery, psychotherapy with a 12-step knowledgable therapist will be more helpful to you in treating life problems through a recovery lens. 12-step facilitation is not a substitute for a sponsor or in place of meetings, but may assist in any barriers to affiliating with these invaluable resources and/or serve in conjunction with the 12-step program for improved healing.
“The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.”
